Our love of vintage originally started in 1982 when an old men’s dinner jacket was found in a second-hand shop in Middlesbrough. This was worn with such love and enthusiasm for a whole year that, in desperation, a rather exasperated father handed over £100 to ‘go and buy some decent clothes’. The money was spent on a pair of winter trousers (£30) and a beautiful black lace 1920s dress (£70). Needless to say it wasn’t exactly what the father had in mind! Many years of dipping in and out of second-hand clothes followed. Then 10 years ago, feeling uninspired by the high street and wanting to stand out from the crowd, a fascination for style from the Twenties to the Seventies quickly developed into a passion for collecting gorgeous things from a bygone era. A huge collection was amassed – from flapper dresses to Fifties frocks, minis to maxis, jazzy jackets to cool coats. You could say the passion got a little crazy, even became an obsession! Every room turned into a walk-in wardrobe filled with bulging clothes rails. Vintage clothes took over the home! It had turned into a shop that no one could see. And so it was decided to fling the wardrobe doors open to the world. The only thing missing was a name. After much scratching of heads, suddenly the mists of time cleared and a vision of Pippa, a much-loved pocket-sized fashion doll in the Seventies, came into focus. She had a great sense of style and individuality — just like the clothes on this site. Hence, pippaandme was born. Initially, it was the amazing colours, designs and high quality that was the attraction to clothing of the past, where mass manufacturing wasn’t an option and garments were created with love and care. But there is another aspect to buying vintage that is very dear to our hearts. We have a strong ethical policy and love the fact that by selling recycled products we are helping to save the planet. So please only print out stuff from our site if you absolutely have to. Although our love affair began with clothing, we are now into all things vintage and retro, and have added homeware and furniture to our growing collection. Our definition of vintage is any product over 25 years old, our retro range takes in new products with a vintage feel and our second-hand section covers anything not in these two categories but which has been previously used. If we’re lucky enough to come across an antique item, it’ll say so on the label. We hand-pick the majority of our products and the rest are sourced by our wonderful team of suppliers from around the world. We take great care in precisely dating our items but we’re not infallible. We give full, accurate descriptions of visible faults and those that are more hidden. If you are not happy with an item for whatever reason, we offer a full money back guarantee.
